Position: Assistant Manager, Safety Engineering

Work Location: Shanghai

Main Tasks:

- New safety technology development: define, initiate, and manage research projects, e.g. application of image recognition to simulation of dispersion area. Your expertise and results will be further developed to direct research and production application.

- Develop and define safety concept since research phase for processes/ productions in BASF, including intermediates, petrochemicals, performance materials, monomers, dispersions and pigments, catalysts, and coatings, ect.

- Provide technical support to production plants in BASF Asian Pacific on process safety related design topics with a focus on modelling and safeguarding runaway reactions, two-phase flow phenomena and consequence analysis for release scenarios. Examples including fluid dynamic simulation to determine hydraulics, solving DAE system for transient modelling of thermophysics, near-field/far-field dispersion modelling, VCE, BLEVE.

- Establish an expert network within BASF global research community, operational units, and scientific partners to maintain state of the art expertise as well as monitor new practices and market trends.

Requirements:

- Education: PhD candidates, major in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Piping, and other relevant majors.

- Technical & Professional Knowledge: in-depth knowledge in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics (phase equilibria), mass and heat transfer as well as reaction kinetics. A good command of scientific programing languages such as python, FORTRAN, C++. General understanding towards chemical processes (basic knowledge of ASPEN process simulation is a plus). Demonstrate a high level of creativity and personal initiative, work well in global teams.
